MDMA

Ecstasy is most often available in tablet form and is usually ingested orally. It is also available as a powder and is sometimes snorted and occasionally smoked.

Ecstasy can produce both stimulant and psychedelic effects. Chemically related to both methamphetamine and mescaline, it combines properties of both without the excesses of either according to those who use it.

Ecstasy stimulates the release of Serotonin from the brain. It can produce a sense of pleasure and trust, but has a short duration of action. The effects can include confusion, depression, anxiety and paranoia during and at times weeks after taking the drug. MDMA or Ecstasy use causes persistent memory problems.

Physical Effects: Include muscle tension, involuntary teeth-clenching, nausea, faintness and chills or sweating. The stimulant effect which enables users to dance for extended periods can cause dehydration, hypertension, convulsions, and heart or kidney failure.

Ecstasy (or "E" as it is often referred to) can cause marked increase in body temperature (malignant hyperthermia) leading to muscle breakdown, kidney/cardiovascular system failure and DEATH.
